报告摘要:
Modern statistical methods provide a powerful fool to address complex statistical issues arising in clinical research and practice. Harnessing the power of such methods can be quite a challenging task, even for professional biostatisticians. Too often, a range of competing methods is available and it can be quite difficult to determine the approach most appropriate to address the issues at hand, especially when one needs to defend the approach used, as is often the case in grant applications and manuscript publications. Many statistical models may seem quite similar, but can actually produce quite different results with completely different interpretations. Also, as statistical packages become ever “user-friendly”, it is tempting to use them without having a good understanding of the underlying statistical methods as well as the quality of the implementation of the methods by the packages. In this talk, we discuss a range of popular statistical methods for clinical research and appropriate contexts for their applications using data from both real and simulated studies.
