In this context, the lecture reviews applied information technologies and explains the connection between terminal operating systems (TOS) and decision analytics and combinatorial optimization with some real-world examples. Focusing on data science and machine learning, the lecture aims to establish a data-driven perspective on terminal planning and management by discussing applications in container terminals and related research, complementing the traditional combinatorial optimization perspective. The aim of the lecture is to convey and discuss the relations between practical problems, technologies, research and methods, and implications of their application in practice.
